How I Work

On a relentless quest to find truly powerful, feminine ways of helping people experience transformation, I have gone out of my way to seek training and mentorship in an ever-proliferating array of modalities and lineages. The common thread is that I am always looking for methods that go beyond the surface chatter of the mind, and descend straight into the emotional body and the sacred so that we can shift your current suffering at the root.

As you can tell from my About Me page (which lists my trainings and credentials), I'm a bit of a gourmand when it comes to ongoing learning. At any given time, there is usually some somatic or transpersonal modality I am being trained in, and I draw from my extensive knowledge and experience intuitively in sessions, in a way that is tailored to you. I really consider psychotherapy to be a field that is just now starting to accept the fact that it is an art form.

I am committed to seeing clients in their highest spiritual and creative potential, and to providing a fiercely compassionate space where you can feel my heart and are invited into your own heart in every session, even if all you feel in your heart is numbness and frustration. I will never push you to go anywhere you are not ready to go. Rather I will trust your inner healing intelligence to guide our pace and our chosen path together in therapy. (This is the deep part of you that knows what you're ready for as you move towards greater wholeness, which has been referred to and called various things cross-culturally and throughout history.) In this way, you and your deep knowing are always the star of the show, not me.

Sessions with me will always start with whatever is feeling present and alive for you. Some clients like to begin with a drop-in or somatic meditation guided by me, and I am always very happy to provide that. I may encourage slowing down and noticing what is happening internally (in the body, or emotionally) at some points in your session. Some clients like to focus on shamanic energy medicine and go straight into somatic, shamanic ceremony in each session. Some clients would prefer to just do EMDR therapy together. Your preferences and readiness are the sovereign queen of the process. And I will never push ketamine-assisted psychotherapy onto anyone. I explore it with clients who have explicitly stated that they are interested, and we take our time preparing. Easy-does-it is key in any kind of trauma recovery work.

Having worked for years with trauma in community-based mental health before I was in private practice, I always bring a trauma lens and I see people in terms of what happened to them rather than through a pathologizing lens of what's "wrong" with them. In many ways, what you consider your "symptoms" are something that is actually very right about you. We just need to decode them for the soul letters they are.

Last but certainly not least, the way I work is highly relational. That means I take very seriously the research that shows that, in order for therapy to be effective, there needs to be a real human relationship, and that this matters even more than the therapeutic modality being used. Therefore, I am just myself in sessions. I don't put on airs. That doesn't mean I make sessions about me, because that wouldn't be appropriate, but I am very much present as my full, human self and I'm in a real human relationship with you. This is why I privilege tending to the relational field over quickly getting started with any specific modality.

Honestly, if I was considering working with me, I would want to bring holistic nutrition and lifestyle medicine into Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) prep work. Then possibly even weave Shamanic Energy Medicine into my KAP dosing sessions. And then bring expressive arts, Body Temple Dance, and possibly even EMDR into my KAP integration. That would be a super powerful bouquet of therapies all woven together. But there is no right or wrong way to navigate this, and you may choose to proceed with only one or two of these modalities with me.
